The Waiting Room Display transforms any consumer television, computer monitor, or tablet in your clinic lobby into a professional, real-time electronic queue board. It keeps waiting patients informed, reduces anxiety, and creates an orderly OPD environment.
1. How the Waiting Room Display Works
When doctors call patients from their consultation room or when receptionists check in arrivals, the live screen updates instantly over the clinic's local network:
- Now Calling Section: Prominently highlights the active token number, patient name/initials, and the specific consultation room they should enter (e.g., Token W-04 → Room 2 (Dr. Sharma)).
- Waiting Queue Table: Shows the next 5 to 10 patients in line so patients know their approximate wait sequence.
- Audio Chime: Plays a clean electronic chime alert whenever a doctor calls the next patient.
- Clinic Branding: Displays your clinic name, logo, current time, and patient care notices.
2. Hardware Setup Options
You do not need expensive proprietary display hardware. Any device capable of running a modern web browser will work:
- Smart TV (Simplest): Open the built-in browser app (e.g., Samsung Tizen Browser, LG webOS Browser, Sony Android TV).
- Streaming Stick: Plug an Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast with Google TV, or Xiaomi Mi Box into your TV's HDMI port and open the Amazon Silk or Chrome browser.
- Mini-PC / Old Laptop: Connect a small Windows, Mac, or Linux mini-PC to the TV via HDMI cable.
3. Launching the Display Screen
- In the browser on your lobby TV or PC, navigate to:
https://zidbit.com/display/waiting-room
- Log in once using your clinic staff credentials.
- Select your facility if your account belongs to multiple clinics.
- Press <kbd>F11</kbd> on your keyboard (or click the Full Screen icon) to expand the display into edge-to-edge presentation mode.
- Set and Forget: The display automatically reconnects and refreshes if your clinic Wi-Fi momentarily drops.
4. Configuration & Privacy Settings
Admins can customize the display behavior in Settings → Queue Display:
Patient Privacy Modes
Depending on your regional healthcare privacy regulations or clinical preference:
- Token Only Mode: Displays only the assigned queue number (e.g.,
Token #12 → Room 1). Ideal for high-privacy environments like mental health or sexual health clinics.
- Token + First Name Mode (Recommended): Displays the token number alongside the patient's first name (e.g.,
Token #12 (Rahul) → Room 1). This provides clarity while keeping full legal identities private.
- Token + Full Name Mode: Displays the complete patient name for general family practices.
Audio Announcement Settings
- Audio Chime Alert: Toggle the alert sound ON or OFF.
- Volume Test: Click the sound test button to calibrate lobby speakers so the chime is clearly audible over waiting room background noise.
- Voice Announcement (Early Access): Announces the token audibly (e.g., "Token Number 4, please proceed to Room 2").
5. Daily Reception Best Practices
- Morning Boot-up: Turn on the waiting room TV at the start of clinic hours. The screen will display "Waiting for clinic session to start" until the first patient checks in.
- Issue Tokens to All Walk-ins: Ensure front-desk staff or self-registration kiosks issue every arriving patient a token. Patients can compare their physical paper or digital token against the screen.
- Doctor Calling: Clinicians simply click Call Next Patient or Start Consultation in the consultation room. The TV immediately chimes and flashes the room directions.
