🩺 Consultations

The Consultations module is the doctor's workspace. Here you record clinical notes, diagnosis, prescriptions, vitals, and schedule follow-ups.

Accessible by: Admin, Doctor

Starting a Consultation

A consultation is always linked to an existing appointment.

  1. In the sidebar, click Consultations (or find the appointment in Appointments).
  2. Find the patient's appointment — it should be in Scheduled status.
  3. Click Start Consultation.

This opens the consultation workspace for that patient.

The Consultation Workspace

1. Patient Info Panel

Shows the patient's name, date of birth, gender, and a summary of past visits. This is pulled automatically — no entry required.

Active allergies from the patient's medical history are shown here as a quick reference.

2. Vitals

Record the patient's current vitals before the clinical assessment:

FieldUnit
Blood PressuremmHg (systolic / diastolic)
Weightkg
Heightcm
Temperature°C
SpO2%
Pulsebpm
NotesFree text

Out-of-range values are flagged automatically in amber.

3. Clinical Notes

⚠️ If a prescribed medicine matches a known allergy from the patient's medical history, the system will display a conflict warning. Review carefully before proceeding.

5. Follow-up

Before finalising, you can schedule a follow-up for the patient:

FieldNotes
Due DateWhen the patient should return
ReasonBrief description (e.g. "Review blood pressure after 2 weeks")
Assign ToTeam member responsible for the follow-up

The follow-up will appear in the Pending Follow-ups widget on the dashboard and in the Follow-ups section.

Finalising the Consultation

  1. Review all sections — vitals, clinical notes, prescription, and follow-up.
  2. Click Finalise Consultation.

What happens:

  • Appointment status → Completed
  • A billing draft is automatically created
  • Prescription becomes available for PDF printing
  • Vitals are saved to the patient's vitals history
  • Follow-up (if set) appears on the dashboard

⚠️ You cannot edit a finalised consultation. If a correction is needed, contact your Admin.

Printing a Prescription

After finalising:

  1. On the consultation summary page, click Print Prescription.
  2. A print-ready PDF opens with clinic details, patient info, medicines, and doctor signature line.
  3. Use your browser's print dialog or save as PDF.

Tips

  • Check the Timeline tab on the patient profile before starting — it shows the complete history at a glance.
  • Always finalise before the patient leaves — the billing team needs it to generate the invoice.
  • Record vitals even if they're normal — they build a longitudinal record over time.
