🔁 Follow-ups
The Follow-ups module ensures no patient falls through the cracks. Schedule a follow-up during or after a consultation, and track it until it's completed.
Accessible by: Admin, Doctor
How Follow-ups Work
- A follow-up is created during a consultation or manually from the Follow-ups section.
- It appears on the Dashboard in the Pending Follow-ups widget.
- When the patient returns or the task is done, the follow-up is marked complete.
Creating a Follow-up During a Consultation
The easiest way to create a follow-up is directly from the consultation workspace before finalising:
- In the consultation form, scroll to the Follow-up section.
- Fill in:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Due Date | When the patient should be seen or contacted |
| Reason | Brief description (e.g. "Review BP after 2 weeks") |
| Assign To | The team member responsible (optional) |
- The follow-up is saved automatically when you finalise the consultation.
Viewing All Follow-ups
- In the sidebar, click Follow-ups.
- The list shows all follow-ups with their status, patient, due date, and assigned team member.
- Use the filters to view:
- Pending — not yet completed
- Overdue — past their due date and still pending
- Completed — finished follow-ups
- Cancelled — cancelled follow-ups
Dashboard Widget
The Pending Follow-ups widget on the Dashboard shows follow-ups that are due today or overdue. You can mark a follow-up complete directly from the widget without navigating away — just click the tick icon on any row.
Overdue items are highlighted in amber so they stand out.
Marking a Follow-up Complete
From the widget: Click the ✓ (tick) icon on the follow-up row. The item is marked complete and disappears from the pending list.
From the Follow-ups section:
- Find the follow-up in the list.
- Click on it to open the detail view.
- Click Mark Complete and optionally add a note.
- The status changes to Completed with a timestamp.
Cancelling a Follow-up
If a follow-up is no longer needed:
- Open the follow-up from the Follow-ups section.
- Click Cancel.
- Confirm the action.
Cancelled follow-ups are kept in the list for reference but are removed from the pending/overdue view.
Follow-ups on the Patient Timeline
All follow-ups (pending, completed, and cancelled) appear on the patient's Timeline tab, giving a full picture of the care journey.
Tips
- Set follow-ups for every patient with a chronic condition — it creates accountability for the care team.
- Use the Assign To field so the right team member is notified.
- Check the Dashboard widget at the start of every day to see what's due.
- Overdue items are highlighted — address them before adding new ones.
